We have said it before and sure enough we will have to say it again but for now, take solace ladies, for the Supreme Court of India has agreed, with two men on the bench, that a happy marriage is rather easily achieved provided the man does what he is born to …..listen to his wife…at ALL times.
Hooray to women’s lib I say! The said news item (check here ) has generated enough script to fill many a radio show’s call-in segments with everyone from Punjabi Bagh’s Pummy to Chittaranjan Park’s Charulata feeling vindicated on air while the men alternate between being chivalrously genteel about the whole thing (I think to better their marital prospects) and calling it all rantings of men with marriages gone bad ( it was after all a divorce hearing and the judges did call themselves Bhuktbhogis )
The radio brouhaha has come out on the roads now. A lady and a gentlemen who fiercly locked horns on air have now founded forums to aid and promote their viewpoints.
Lady for all the satai hui pativratas who take it all on the chin and simply start to slowly poison the disagreeable husband instead of raising a voice against them. And the gentleman, for all the husbands who pull out chairs and open doors and thus dont see the need to listen to their wives telling tem not to burp in public! They know manners!Didnt she just walk in, nose intact because he held the door open!!
The government unfortunately, came down fast and hard on all the drama …the chief minister seems to think its all a big typhoon in a teacup. First it was a safety crisis because the girls didnt have enough brains to not step out after dark (work or no work). Now, they want to be acknowledged right at all times!! What times do these women think they live in? the 21st century??
So while the supreme court might give us women what was rightfully ours I would suggest to keep the celeberations under wraps for a little while longer just till we have managed to make the men realise it was their idea in the first place! Because you see men are always right and if they think they should lidten to us then weel that must be the thing to do.
